Introduction to Floristry

  • The Flower Appreciation Society BE Studios, 72a Southgate Road London, England, N1 3JF United Kingdom (map)

This class is aimed at those who want to learn the basics in floristry, either to use at home or to give you the confidence to start working as a florist.

We will start the day with a chat about how The Flower Appreciation Society began and give you lots of tips and advice on starting up your own business. We will demonstrate how to select the best blooms, choose lovely colour combinations and create shapes. We will also show you how to condition and prepare your flowers.

Next we will teach how to make and wrap a hand tied bouquet. Next we will demonstrate how to arrange flowers in a vase using the grid technique. It will then be your turn to try out the techniques you’ve learnt by creating your very own centre piece in a glass vase and of course using plenty of beautiful seasonal blooms.

We will then have a delicious lunch to restore our energy levels for the afternoon’s session.

Following lunch, we will focus on larger scale floral arrangements, and you will each have a go at creating your own floral masterpiece in a large vessel.

We will use lots of British flowers and foliage for this class including some grown in our cutting garden round the corner from our studio in Hackney. We will take high res pictures of your creations which we will send you after the workshop. We encourage you to bring your own cameras/smart phones to document your work through the day.

All flowers and materials will be provided. Bring a big, strong bag to take your creations home in.

We look forward to getting flowery with you!
