Introduction To Floristry - PART 1

This class is aimed at those who want to learn the basics in floristry, either to use at home or to give you the confidence to start working as a florist.

We will start the day with a chat about how The Flower Appreciation Society began and give you lots of tips and advice on starting up your own business. We will demonstrate how to select the best blooms, choose lovely colour combinations and create shapes.  We will also show you how to condition and prepare your flowers.

Next we will teach how to make and wrap a hand tied bouquet and how to make a Flower Appreciation Society signature fresh flower head dress.
We will then have a delicious seasonal lunch to restore our energy levels for the afternoon’s session. Following lunch we will demonstrate how to arrange flowers in a vase using chicken wire. It will then be your turn to try out the techniques you’ve learnt by creating your very own centre piece in a glass vase using chicken wire and of course plenty of beautiful seasonal blooms.

Finally as a group we will make a hanging foliage and flower installation.

We will use lots of British flowers and foliage for this class including some grown in our cutting garden round the corner from our studio in Hackney. And we will have a photographer in the studio all day, documenting your work and taking portfolio shots which are then yours to keep and use as you like.

All flowers, materials and a kit with the essentials needed to work as a florist will be provided. Bring a big, strong bag to take your creations home in.

We look forward to getting flowery with you!

"I had a fantastic day at The Flower Appreciation Society's 'Introduction to floristry' course in July this year. I learnt so much during the day, not only about the different arrangements but also about British flowers and foliage. Ellie and Anna were brilliant teachers and very patient with me (as i asked millions of questions!) It was a great way of seeing how a florist works - and i would recommend anyone who is interested in setting up their own business to attend this course - which covered more or less everything in a day. The course was really unique and very inspiring. Thank you so much!"
