WEEK ONE — Foundations, Wedding & Ceremony Flowers
22nd June- 26th June 2026
(all days will be 10am-4pm apart from the market day trip which will be 6am-2pm)
Week One is a grounding in core floristry skills, natural design principles and wedding work.
Day 1 — Introduction, Conditioning & Hand-tied Bouquets
We start the course with a warm welcome and a chat about how The Flower Appreciation Society began, along with tips for sourcing seasonal British blooms. In the afternoon, we focus on an introduction to bouquet making. You’ll learn to condition flowers for longevity, understand colour and form, and practice the spiral technique. Then it’s your turn to create a garden-inspired hand-tied bouquet, which we’ll help you wrap beautifully to take home.
Day 2 — Market Visit and Bridesmaid Headdresses
It’s an early start today- we’ll meet at New Covent Garden Flower market at 6am, where you’ll be introduced to some of the traders, shown around the stalls, and learn how the market works. It’s a wonderful opportunity to see the range of seasonal flowers available, understand quality and pricing, and begin to learn how to select blooms confidently for your own creations. We shall return to the studio for a breakfast of coffee, fruit and pastries and then spend the rest of the day making headdresses for bridesmaids using dried flowers and individually wired hair flowers.
Day 3 — Table Flowers & Styling
Today is all about designing for the table. We’ll cover sustainable, foam-free mechanics, how to work with different vessels, and the principles of scale, balance and flow. You’ll create your own table arrangement and have time in the afternoon to style and photograph your work — essential skills for any budding florist.
Day 4 — Wedding Floristry, Accessories and Meadow Mounds
We dive into wedding floristry, exploring client consultations, mood boards and proposals. Next we shall explore bridal accessories and show you how to make a buttonhole and a hair comb. Then it will be your turn to have a go. After Lunch we shall discuss different ideas for pew ends and show you how to make a standing meadow mound which can be used to create a dramatic walkway down an aisle or up a staircase.
Day 5 — Ceremony Arrangements & Arch Installation
We begin the day with medium sized arrangements, using chicken wire for structure and exploring shape, texture and movement. You’ll create your own urn arrangement suitable for a window sill, mantelpiece or at the front of a ceremony. In the afternoon you’ll come together as a group to build a stunning floral arch installation. We finish the day with a celebratory glass of fizz and you’ll gather left over flowers from the week to take home and practise with over the weekend.
WEEKEND
WEEK TWO — Advanced Floristry & Seasonal Creativity
29th June- 3rd July 2026 (all days will be 10am-4pm)
Week Two is all about exploring larger-scale design, developing your personal style, and experimenting with seasonal creativity. Whether you’ve joined us for Week One or are starting fresh, this week gives you the time and space for immersive, expressive floral work.
Day 6 — Seasonal Wreaths & Garlanding
After a catch up over coffee and tea and a welcome to any newcomers, you’ll learn to work with seasonal materials to create wreaths and garlands, exploring colour, texture and natural movement. By the end of the day, you’ll have made a beautiful wreath and a garland suitable for a mantel, staircase or event space.
Day 7 — Bridal Bouquets and Bridal Headdresses
Today we shall explore bridal bouquet techniques, focusing on shape, balance, movement and finishing touches using a claw technique. You will select the colour palette and flowers you would like to use and spend time creating a stunning bridal bouquet, tied off with a beautiful silk ribbon. In the afternoon we shall move on to creating beautiful fresh flower bridal headdresses. You’ll have time to create your own show-stopping headdress to photograph and take home.
Day 8 — Table Runners & Large Urns
Today you’ll learn how to build abundant, foam-free table runners that flow beautifully along the length of a table, using shape, movement and layered textures to create a natural, garden-inspired feel. In the afternoon, we move on to large sculptural urn arrangements, exploring how to create depth, height and balance while working on a bigger scale. We’ll guide you through techniques for structure, support and sustainable mechanics, as well as choosing the right mix of flowers and foliage to give real impact. By the end of the day, you’ll have created two impressive statement pieces, gained confidence working at scale, and added portfolio-worthy designs to your growing body of work.
Day 9 — Flower Field Visit & Freestyle Studio Session
We start the day with a guided visit to the beautiful flower field of The London Flower Farmer in Walthamstow. You shall learn about cutting and growing techniques, seasonal varieties, and the grower–florist relationship. You will have a chance to cut your very own bucket of flowers from the field and discover the incredible range of colours, textures, and foliage available to inspire your creations. Back at the studio you’ll have time for a freestyle session, creating floral pieces inspired by the morning’s visit using flowers picked fresh from the field. *Please note we shall meet and begin the day at the field in Walthamstow and then organise transport back to the studio for the afternoon
Day 10 — Cloud Installation & Celebration
We finish the course with a show-stopping, large-scale cloud installation, giving you the chance to collaborate as a team while learning essential techniques for building airy, sculptural floral designs. You’ll explore how to create volume, movement, and lightness without using foam, and how to plan and execute an installation that has real impact.
Once the installation is complete, there will be time to gather left over flowers and get them ready to take home in armfuls. We’ll round off the course with a glass of fizz, tea and cake — to toast your creativity, achievements, and all the gorgeous flowers you’ve worked with along the way.
